You made it.
Easter came and went. The crowds showed up (or didn’t). The sermon was preached. The baptisms were celebrated. The volunteers smiled, parked, served, and stacked. The photos were posted. The stories were shared.
And now?
It’s Tuesday. And guess what’s coming?
Yep—another Sunday.
No matter how your Easter went, you’re probably feeling it. The holy hangover is real. And for a lot of pastors, the Sunday after Easter might be the hardest one yet.
If Easter Was Amazing…
Maybe you’re still riding the high—record numbers, salvations, new guests, full parking lots, and everything clicking like a finely tuned worship set.
But adrenaline always has a crash.
It’s hard to celebrate when Sunday is barreling toward you like a freight train. You’re already scrambling to write another sermon, debrief with your team, and follow up with guests.
And maybe—just maybe—you were hoping for:
- A little breathing room
- A little gratitude
- A little break
Instead… here we go again.
If Easter Was Underwhelming…
Not every church packed the house. Not every room was electric. Some pastors stepped off the platform wondering if anyone really cared.
You prayed, prepped, and poured your heart into the weekend. But maybe it still felt… flat. That’s a heavy weight to carry—especially if:
- You’re leading mostly alone
- You’re bivocational
- You’re planting a church
- Or you’re watching your church shrink more than grow
The dangerous question starts to creep in:
“Am I still called to this?”
Let me say this clearly:
Your calling is not cancelled by a hard Sunday.
God sees your work—and your weariness.
He honors faithfulness, not fanfare.
So… What Now?
Whether Easter was a win or a weight, this week is more than a follow-up—it’s an opportunity. Not just to prep another message, but to protect your soul.
Here are 5 practical steps every pastor should take after Easter:
1. Schedule a Personal Debrief (Just You and Jesus)
Take 30–60 minutes. No agenda. No expectations.
Just sit with God. Ask:
-
- What did You want me to notice this Easter?
- Where did I see You move?
- Where am I weary?
- What do You want to say to me now?
And if you don’t hear anything? That’s okay.
His silence might be an invitation to rest, not a sign of distance.
2. Write Down Your Easter Wins (And Don’t Minimize Them)
Big or small—name them.
-
- That conversation in the lobby
- That one baptism story
- That moment of breakthrough
Write them down. Share them with someone you trust. Celebrate the faithfulness—not just the flash.
Because if you don’t mark the wins, your soul will only remember the weight.
3. Block a Half-Day (Or More) This Week
Put it on the calendar now. Even if it’s just a morning.
And no—it’s not for inbox zero or catching up on texts.
Use it to rest your body and reset your soul:
-
- Go for a hike
- Sit in a coffee shop with no agenda
- Watch a dumb movie
- Journal. Nap. Walk. Pray.
Recovery isn’t a reward—it’s a requirement.
4. Connect with Another Pastor (Especially One Who Gets It)
Burnout breeds in isolation.
Text a friend. Start with this:
“You good after Easter?”
You might be surprised how many pastors are feeling exactly like you.
I work with pastors all over the world, and I already know—this week, most of my coaching calls will be about soul care, not strategy.
5. Don’t Plan Something Big This Sunday
Let this week breathe.
Don’t try to recreate the Easter momentum or manufacture excitement. Just be faithful.
-
- Preach a clear message.
- Love your people well.
- Don’t chase the emotional high.
Remember This:
-
God doesn’t grade on attendance.
You’re not a better pastor because more people came. And you’re not a failure because they didn’t. -
The next Sunday matters—but so do you.
You gave a lot last week. Don’t give away your health this week. -
Your identity isn’t in a single sermon or service.
Easter didn’t define your calling. And the Sunday after won’t undo it.
